Yekuana Indians  [more about the Yekuana Indians]

The Yekuana (Yeh-qua-nah) Indians are a very traditional tribe living along the riverbanks in the Amazon rain forest in Venezuela. They are an extremely talented people mastering the arts of basketry, wood carving, and making and hunting with blowguns. 

 

Venezuela - Andes Mountains

The artists in the Andes mountains of South America are known for their wonderfully imaginative and diverse pottery. Mucugres means "Place of clay" in the ancient Indian language of the Venezuelan Andes. Mucugres pottery uses local clay to form their own unique and creative style of pottery pieces. Indonesia

 

Lombok

In traditional Indonesia, medicines, which are usually made of native herbs are highly prized, precious possessions. Traditionally Indonesians would carve elaborate boxes and containers to hold their medicines. Though increasingly rare, these boxes may still be found, hand carved of wood, bamboo, bone, and horn.

These traditional medicine containers are made of hand etched bamboo with hand carved wood animals on the lids. Used to store precious medicines or herbs. From the Island of Lombok.

Large bamboo medicine containers average 9" in height. No two alike.
